Since 1994, Fondazione Città della Speranza has aimed to improve the conditions of care and assistance for children and to support scientific research in the oncological and pediatric fields. Thanks to constant fundraising activities, it has raised approximately 60 million euros over time. Of these, 23 million have been invested in scientific research and 750,000 euros are allocated each year to the advanced diagnostics of the Pediatric Oncohematology Clinic of Padua, a national reference center for the diagnosis of leukemia, lymphomas, and sarcomas within the Italian Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. To develop its mission more effectively, the Foundation inaugurated its own Pediatric Research Institute in Padua in 2012. With its 17,500 square meters, it is the largest European hub dedicated to research on childhood diseases. To date, it hosts approximately 300 researchers, distributed across 15 laboratories, who treat pediatric pathologies from different perspectives to multiply the chances of success in terms of new discoveries. The most represented research areas are pediatric oncology, regenerative medicine, and nanomedicine.

The organization was inaugurated in 2000 and today represents one of the centers of excellence in the field of basic scientific research, with initiatives of all kinds in the field of cellular and molecular biology. VIMM conducts translational research, which brings science, pure research, and medical application closer together, in order to use laboratory discoveries in the most appropriate and rapid way. One of the Foundation’s strengths is the organization’s flexibility in using its professional and financial resources toward research needs in molecular medicine, a characteristic that also allows the facility to attract important collaborations with other research centers of international significance. A fundamental contribution to the network will be to increase knowledge and the development of joint collaborations between corporate partners and research centers specialized in pathologies (including metabolic ones) involving the central nervous system that can be studied through molecular research paths and processes.
